Illness or Emptiness
Muhammad Farid Hasan
A sudden illness on the porch of sorrow
The afternoon gleams with light
Gentle river, tranquil water-life
Mountains in the distance, nature awakens.
The seagull of poetry flies away
Evening tea brings a procession of stories
The moon calls by name
The moonlit girl takes the mind away,
The night of Falgun lengthens.
There is no sorrow market on the porch
A secret commotion in curious eyes,
Tenderness fills the yard;
the house bears deep resentment.
When you arrive,
The empty house fills in an instant
Words resonate, a Baul’s ektara plays
When you smile,
Sorrow disappears from the melancholic porch
A deep illness takes hold.
