Researcher Muhammad Farid Hasan Receives prestigious Kali o Kalam Award

Bangladesh Today: Renowned researcher Muhammad Farid Hasan has been awarded the prestigious "Kali o Kalam Tarun Kabi o Lekhak Puraskar-2024", along with four other young poets and writers. The awards were handed over at a modest ceremony held in Dhaka. Muhammad Farid Hasan received the award in the essay and research category for his book Shatabarshe Cha-Shramik Andolan: Deadline 20 May 1921 (The Tea Worker Movement at 100 Years: Deadline 20 May 1921).

In other categories, Ostrick Rishi won the poetry award for his book Satitaloy, Shazed Ul Haq Abir received the fiction award for Nirbachito Debdut, Swaralipi was awarded in the Liberation War and Revolution literature category for Sgai Fort Escape, and Niaz Mahmood received the children's literature award for Tilkumarer Jatra.

The award ceremony took place on 26 july 2025 Saturday at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury attended the event as the chief guest, while the ceremony was presided over by Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, president of the editorial board of Kali o Kalam.

Also present were Mashrur Arefin, Managing Director of City Bank, Luva Nahid Choudhury, a member of the Kali o Kalam editorial board, and Abul Khair, publisher of Kali o Kalam.

In his speech, Professor Sirajul Islam Choudhury said, “A new journey has begun for the award recipients, which will inspire their literary pursuits. Readers too have responsibilities, as they are the primary patrons of literature.”

Each awardee received a crest, a certificate, and prize money of BDT Two lac.

The monthly literary and cultural magazine Kali o Kalam introduced the award in 2008 to encourage young poets and writers. From 2020 to 2023, the awards were jointly organized by IFIC Bank and Kali o Kalam. This year, the event was jointly organized by City Bank and Kali o Kalam.

It is worth mentioning that Muhammad Farid Hasan has been dedicated to literary pursuits for two decades. He is currently a PhD researcher and has published 30 books across Bangladesh and India. His poetry has also been published in various countries around the world.
